Islamabad: The National Assembly is voting on the 2021-22 budget.

After opposition party members objected to the oral vote, a resolution was passed to submit the budget for approval after the vote was counted.

Earlier, PPP MNA Nafeesa Shah criticized the government’s budget measures, saying that the Federal Revenue Service (FBR) is becoming another NAB.

Shah said that no one should allow the FBR to be given the powers of judges and juries, adding that certain points in the budget are too vague to understand.

PML-N MNA Khurram Dastagir slammed the government, saying that its target is the middle class and the poor.

“The government will not be able to achieve its tax targets next year,” he said. “The summary of the government’s economic policy is: the rich are satisfied, the poor are suffering,” he added.

PML-N lawmakers stated that the budget aims to increase sales tax by Rs 383 billion. He turned the gun to the government, believing it was responsible for Karachi’s recent gas shortage.
