According to the spokesperson, the ministry has filed a formal complaint with the relevant US authorities “to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure the safety and well-being of Dr. Siddiqui.”

He added that the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Houston “continue to make every effort to ensure that Dr. Siddiqui is properly taken care of during FMC Carswell’s imprisonment”.

Dr. Aafia is a Pakistani neuroscientist sentenced to prison in the United States. He was indicted by the Federal District Court of New York in September 2008 for murder and attempted assault.
