Karachi: After a short period of hot weather, the metropolis ushered in heavy rains and thunderstorms on Monday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that as the country’s monsoon season begins, intermittent showers will continue until July 16, and several cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar will experience rain.

Sardar Sarfraz, director of Met Karachi, said that there is low pressure in central India and the sea breeze has stopped due to the circulation of the Arabian Sea.

He said that a thundercloud may form in Karachi this afternoon, which may cause light and moderate rain in some areas.

Sarfaraz said that Karachi is expected to last until July 16, during which there may be heavy rains in some areas.

In a statement on Tuesday, PMD stated that the strong monsoon weather system may continue to rain this week.

PMD added that under the influence of this weather system, Sindh cities including Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad and Karachi are expected to have rain/thunderstorms (with isolated heavy rain) from Monday to Friday.

“During this period, the cities of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar and Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Teda and Badin were flooded,” it added Say.
