Covid killed 8 more people and infected 521 more people in Sindh

In the past 24 hours, 8 people have died of Covid-19 in Sindh province, and another 521 people have tested positive for the disease. The number of deaths due to viral coronavirus infection in the province has reached 5,418.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in his daily health emergency report on Sunday that 14,052 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, resulting in 521 people, That is, 4% of those who were screened were diagnosed with Covid-19.

He added that so far, the provincial government has conducted 4,469,182 tests, resulting in 336,059 positive cases, which means that 8% of the people who have been screened have been found to be infected. Shah said that after the recent deaths, the number of confirmed cases in Sindh who failed to fight Covid-19 was 2%.

He said that 19,267 people in the province are currently infected: 18,600 people are self-isolating at home, 55 people are in isolation centers, 612 people are in hospitals, and 557 patients are in critical condition, of which 51 need life support.

He added that in the past 24 hours, the number of people recovered has increased by 369, and the number of people cured has increased to 311,374, with a recovery rate of 92.6%.

CM said that of the 521 new cases in Sindh, Karachi had reported 347 (or 67%): 104 of the new patients in the city were from the Eastern District, 59 from the Southern District, and 49 from the Mariel District. , And 45 from the Central District, West District, and Korangi District.

As for the rest of the province, Hyderabad reported 18 new cases, Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpurkhas each with 14 cases, Thatta 11 cases, Badin and Nawabshah each with 10 cases, Naushehroferoze, Jamshoro, Kambar-Shahdadkot and Sanghar each with 9 cases, Sujawal In 7 cases, Dadu, he added that there are six each for Matiari and Tharparkar, three each for Ghotki and Umerkot, two each for Larkana, and one each for Sukkur, Kashmore-Kandhkot and Khairpur.

Millions of doses

Pakistan is expected to obtain approximately 2.5 million doses of Moderna’s mRNA 1273 Covid-19 vaccine through Covax on Monday or Tuesday, and 100,000 doses of Russian Sputnik V vaccine obtained through bilateral procurement will also arrive in Pakistan next week.

He added: “We will also receive 3 million doses of Coxing vaccine on June 29, so there will be millions of doses available to vaccinate the country’s large population in July.”

“We have communicated to Covax the regulatory requirements for the use of Moderna mRNA vaccines in Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Drug Administration, any vaccine that has been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration or the European Medicines Agency for emergency use can be imported and used in Pakistan .”

The official stated that Pakistan will obtain at least 1 million doses of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine through Covax by the end of July, and added that by the end of July or early August, Covax will also provide more than 12 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine.

“Similarly, Pakistan will obtain 2 million doses of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine through bilateral purchases by the National Disaster Management Agency in July,” the official said.

He added that in the days to come, Pakistan will not lack vaccines. “Three million doses of Kexing vaccine from China will also land on June 29, so we will have enough vaccine doses in this country in July.”
