The messaging app owned by Facebook proposes a “view once” feature that allows users to send photos and videos, which will automatically disappear after viewing. The company said it will disappear forever, so it cannot be saved, reposted, starred or shared. If the user sends any type of media with the help of this function, he/she will not be able to save it in the smartphone because it is impossible.
It is worth noting that if the media sent by the user through the “view once” function is not opened within 14 days, it will be automatically deleted. WhatsApp further requires users to only send such media to trusted contacts like Snapchat or Instagram, and the recipient will be able to take screenshots of the media.
In order to use this function, the user needs to update his/her WhatsApp to the latest version, and then send the picture to other users. For this, it is very important to open a personal or group chat and add photos or videos-via the camera icon or paperclip symbol on iOS and Android, respectively.
Before clicking the send button, click the view once icon located on the right side of the text field. The first symbol has a circle and the iconic green color associated with WhatsApp. Half of the circle is made up of dots.
Users can also send “view once” media on the WhatsApp web application, desktop application and KaiOS.

WhatsApp further revealed that this view-once feature will be protected by end-to-end encryption, so only the sender and recipient can view it.
