A female lecturer who became a victim of online harassment by a former colleague expressed dissatisfaction with the punishment of the perpetrator, saying that the punishment was not enough. She suffered for seven years.

On Wednesday, the Eastern District Court announced that Dr. Farhan Kamrani, an assistant professor at Karachi University (KU), had been convicted of making and sharing fake nudes of victims and sentenced him to a total of eight years in prison.The court also imposed a fine of 1.1 million rupees

She said that as a lecturer, she had to endure seven years of hardship, but the punishment for criminals was very light because he belonged to a noble profession.

“In order to achieve justice, I have experienced nearly seven years of hardship, mental stress and financial problems,” the victim said when sharing her ordeal with News. She said that during the time she was fighting for justice, she could have completed two PhDs. “Due to court cases, I cannot complete my PhD,” she said.

However, the lecturer is happy that the FIA ​​has found the harasser. He is a highly qualified person who works as an assistant professor at a public university. “I don’t know who is making my fake nude photos and sharing them with my students and other colleagues. When my students and employers notified me, I filed a complaint against an unidentified person,” she said.

When the female lecturer filed a complaint, she didn’t know where the office of the FIA ​​cybercrime department was. However, her employer stepped forward and helped her register a complaint against an unidentified person. “I just want to stop the campaign against me on social media. But even after registering a few complaints, the harasser took the matter to a new level.”

Speaking of her pain, she said: “After seeing my fake photos and videos on social media, I faced traumatic pressure that almost broke my sense of security. I felt helpless and vulnerable. I was thinking, If my family, especially my husband, knew about my character, what would they think of my character? I can’t talk to my family and husband. My mind is blank.”

Subsequently, the FIA ​​tracked the IP address and location of the suspect. Only when the agency’s cybercrime department arrested the suspect did she know that her former colleague, Dr. Kamrani, was harassing her.

They both worked together in the Special Security Unit (SSU) of the Sindh Provincial Police. The victim at the time was a media coordinator for SSU, and the offender was hired as a psychiatric trainer for the newly recruited police.

“There was no direct interaction between Dr. Kamrani and I,” the victim said, adding that, however, when he was arrested, he made up a story to tell investigators. “He claimed that I was in love with him, and I promised to marry him, but then I deceived him. The whole story is a naked lie,” the victim said.

“For seven years, I have been running from pillar to post in court and law enforcement offices, just to prove that I have never had a relationship or intimacy with Dr. Kamrani. I may never be able to explain the trauma and Pain, because my fake nude photos got nothing on social media,” she said.

According to court documents, during the FIA ​​investigation, the offender pleaded guilty to making edited pornographic photos for the victim. He tried to offer an apology and pray for mercy, but did not get a response from the complainant.

The lecturer said that after some of his peers came to her house, one of them raised his shirt and showed her children a pistol to intimidate them. After this strategy did not work and she refused to give in, a page called “Standing with Farhan Kamrani” appeared on the Internet, on which his students and supporters launched a campaign against Her campaign called her Chalbaz Aurat (Scam Women).

The victim had to register for another FIR on the page, and then posted a message there stating that she had understood the page and filed a complaint against it, so the activities on the page will be suspended for a period of time.

However, a month later, another network organization named “Secret Group” was created to slander her with the same thing. She said that even though the case is being heard in court, the campaign against her initiated by Dr. Kamrani’s friends, relatives and family continues.

“In the last two days, I felt very free. In the past many years, they would create groups and pages, and I would complain. At the same time, I was dealing with court cases,” she said.

Although her harasser was convicted, she was not satisfied with the punishment. She said that after reading the verdict, she was very upset. The verdict stated that the defendant was a noble profession.

Dr. Kamrani was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment with a total fine of 1.1 million rupees. However, he will benefit from Article 382-B of the Criminal Procedure Law, under which the time of detention before conviction is considered part of the imprisonment.

However, the victim stated that women must stand up against these harassers. “I know this is not an easy job. Seeking justice with patience is indeed a difficult task. But preferring silence rather than justice means becoming part of the crime,” she said, adding that she did not want her case It is interpreted as the victory of women over men. “I am not against all men. If this matter was done by a woman, I would also go to court to sue her,” she said.
