The Karachi court rejected the defense against Safdar Mariam for allegedly violating the sanctity of Mazar Quaid

Karachi: On Tuesday, a Karachi court rejected the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Committee’s request for a lawsuit against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, her husband Capt Safdar Awan, and party staff, accusing them of violating the sanctity. The mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam during a visit last year.

The court asks the police to submit a report

As early as March, a judicial judge in Karachi directed the Senior Superintendent (Investigation) to investigate the alleged violation of the sacredness of the Quaid-e-Azam Mausoleum by Maryam and her husband Safdar last year.

The case was brought by the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Committee, alleging that Captain Safdar and his associates had personally injured the mausoleum.

Karachi Court revoked FIR against PML-N Captain Safdar

In November last year, a judicial judge revoked another FIR against Safdar Awan after classifying the case as “C-level.”

The police complained that Awan, the husband of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and a group of PML-N supporters violated the sanctity of the Quaid-e-Azam mausoleum by chanting political slogans and intimidating the public.

On October 19, the day after his visit to Mazar, the Sindh police arrested Safdar from his hotel room early in the morning, causing political commotion.

He was released on bail on the same day after his arrest.

On November 9, the Investigating Officer (IO) submitted a revised allegation form to the Magistrate. He and the special prosecutor then recommended that the court declare the case as “Class B”.

However, the judge rejected the police’s recommendation to classify the flight information region as “B-level” and revoked it as “C-level”.

What is a Class C FIR?

FIR is divided into three categories-A, B and C.

When the FIR is true but the defendant cannot be traced, the report is classified as Class A, and Class B means that the complaint is determined to be “maliciously false.”

In category C, FIR is considered an unrecognizable crime-this means that a criminal case was brought due to an error of fact or the crime was of a civil nature.

The consequences of Awan’s arrest

The arrest of Awan sparked outrage from the opposition parties. The Sindh government claimed that the Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mahar was “kidnapped” and forced to take action against the PML-N leader.

Subsequently, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Staff of the Army, ordered an investigation.

On November 10, the Public Relations Department of the Inter-Services (ISPR) stated that some officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) were removed from their posts, awaiting further departmental lawsuits because their actions were “too enthusiastic”.
