Indus Grass Moon Research Association held an event at the Japanese Cultural Center of the Japanese Consulate in Karachi on Tuesday, showing a unique and beautiful flower arrangement style.
Their guest teacher Shaista Khawer from Lahore taught women about 19 flower arrangements. Japanese Consul General Shunichi Isomura is the guest of honor. Shaista, a teacher of Sogetsu Ikebana, said that all the works displayed at the event are her own. “I designed the container myself,” she said, adding that she used different materials in the layout. There are fruits, paper, flowers, leaves, plastics, metals and unconventional materials. “All these are my original designs.”
She said that ikebana is a Japanese flower arrangement art. “I got Japanese certification,” she said. She pointed out that this artwork is very soothing, it provides peace to the soul and mind. “This artwork is also used for meditation,” she said, adding that people can relax and get a good feeling through this artwork.
She explained that in this art form, they discourage the placement of handmade birds. “We use man-made materials, but don’t use birds that are already made of plastic. We prefer to make them ourselves.” Nafisa Tapal, head of Indus Sogetsu Study Group, said that Shaista uses different materials, which is very good. “We used local plant materials in the flower arrangement for this event.”
