PM Imran Khan asks to instruct the minister not to violate the code of conduct of the AJK poll

Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s chief election commissioner and retired judge Abdul Rashid Sulehria asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to issue written instructions to ministers, To comply with the code of conduct prescribed for the AJK Legislative Assembly elections held on July 25.

This development occurred after a video began to circulate on social media. The video showed the handover of the Federal Minister of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur to some supporters in the LA-1 Mirpur 1 constituency of AJK With a large sum of cash, he went there this week to campaign.

Some people gathered near Gandapur and complained to him that the road was severely damaged. They told him that they were seeking to fix it with the meager funds they could raise. Having said that, the minister immediately gave them a donation of 500,000 rupees and recorded a video.

Gandapur also stated that he is ready to provide further financial assistance and promised people that the road will be repaired next time he visits the area.

There are also reports that other ministers have promised to implement various plans in other electoral districts in their respective campaigns.

After the incident came to light, the Chief Election Commissioner wrote to the Prime Minister, asking him to issue written instructions to the federal government ministers and provincial governments participating in the election to ensure that no one would violate the AJK government’s code of conduct.

“It’s worth mentioning that anyone who violates any provisions of the Code of Conduct during a candidate’s campaign may lead to [in] Disqualify the relevant candidate,” the letter said.

Sulehria also wrote a separate letter to the Prime Minister informing him of the code of conduct itself.

The letter went on to state that the code “strongly prohibits any form of financial or development plan statement, or the attraction of any form of political parties, candidates and their sympathizers, to ensure voters’ support for any candidate. Except for party declarations.”

Sulehria said that this request was made “to ensure that the AJK general election […] It is carried out in a transparent and independent manner, without causing any accusations against public officials for misusing national resources.”
