Medical staff arrested for illegally selling Sinopharm, Kexing, and Pfizer vaccines

Karachi: On Thursday, police officials revealed details about the suspected illegal sale of coronavirus vaccines by staff of the city’s health department.

According to the police, the suspect-identified as Zeshan-worked as a nurse under contract at the district health office. He was allegedly involved in illegally selling vaccines from Sinopharm, Kexing and Pfizer to people. Currently, only the Russian Sputnik V vaccine is commercially sold in the country.

The defendant will provide people with home vaccination services. According to the police, the price of each vaccine ranges from 7,500 to 15,000 rupees.

Those who receive the vaccine will be added to the list of people going abroad.

During the interrogation, the suspect revealed that the West District Health Office and NGO officials were providing him with vaccine doses. He also said that the health department officials let him take on the task of selling vaccines.

The suspect claimed that the money earned from the sale of vaccines had been passed to health department staff.

The police have asked higher authorities to approve the arrest of the health officials involved in the case.
