PTA authorizes Lucky Motor Corporation to produce Samsung mobile phones in Pakistan

• The approval was obtained at the request of the company.

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) announced on Tuesday that it has authorized Lucky Motors (LMCL) to produce Samsung mobile devices in Pakistan.

The official press release issued by PTA stated: “According to the Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Regulations 2021, PTA has issued an MDM license to Lucky Motor Corporation Limited for the manufacture of Samsung-branded mobile devices.”

According to the statement, the approval was obtained in response to LMCL’s request to set up a mobile device manufacturing plant in Karachi.

“The company has applied for authorization to set up a mobile device manufacturing plant in Karachi, Pakistan, to produce Samsung-branded mobile devices,” the statement read.

PTA calls the authorization to manufacture international brand mobile phones in the country as a great achievement, which may bring a revolution to Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing industry.

The statement stated: “The authorization to manufacture Samsung mobile devices in Pakistan is a milestone achievement that will further revolutionize the country’s vibrant mobile manufacturing ecosystem by ensuring the presence of major local and foreign players in the market.”

The PTA stated that the credit for issuing MDM authorizations to 25 foreign and local companies to locally produce mobile devices (2G/3G/4G) is due to the federal government’s “favorable” policies in its “digital Pakistan” efforts.

According to the statement, the mobile devices produced by these companies will not only be sold domestically, but will also help to obtain foreign exchange by exporting to other competitive markets in the region and other regions.

In addition, equipment manufacturers should help create new jobs and provide Pakistani users with the affordability of mobile devices.
