Governor Imran Ismail opposes the possible appointment of Murtaza Wahab as the chief executive of Karachi

As a preemptive move, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail expressed his opposition to the possible appointment of current Sindh legal and environmental consultant Barrister Murtaza Wahab as the new administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

The governor expressed his views when talking to media sources after meeting with Grand Democratic League leader Razihan Jatoi at the latter’s residence on Friday.

In response to a question about the Sindh provincial government’s possible action to appoint the Wahab lawyer as the chief executive of Karachi, Ismail recalled that there had been an earlier meeting with the prime minister and military leaders at the Governor’s House in Sindh. At the meeting, it was decided that the chief executive of Karachi was a non-political figure, and his appointment will be made after consultation between the Sindh government and the opposition party.

“The Sindh government’s unilateral decision in this regard is inappropriate in any case,” Ismail commented and added that any such decision by the Sindh government would violate the agreement reached in the presence of the prime minister.

“Karachi is not anyone’s aunt’s home, where people can impose such a decision,” the governor retorted.

He said that if issues such as the appointment of new administrators do not arise, Karachi’s development kit will make progress quickly.

Ismail went on to say that the Sindhi people’s problems are fundamental and must be resolved.

He explained that his meeting with GDA leaders was to identify all such issues in order to prepare a report that could be submitted to the Prime Minister in the future. “The people of Sindh have been paying attention to Imran Khan because they want to change,” he said.

He mentioned that in Sindh province, people have not yet obtained health cards and Kisangka.

Jatoi said that due to the poor performance of the provincial government, the people of Sindh have been disillusioned.

“This [Sindh] The government has done nothing for the past 13 years because people in the province are expecting the federal government,” he said.

‘Not a problem’

At the same time, Sindh’s Minister of Information and Local Government Said Nasir Hussein Shah said that appointing Wahab Barrister as the chief executive of Karachi is not a problem because it has been improperly turned into a problem.

“If there is another government, will the appointment of the chief executive follow the advice of the governor of Sindh?” the Minister of Information asked.

He recalled that the Pakistan Bharatiya Janata Party was in power in Sindh, and the Chief Minister of Sindh and the provincial cabinet made relevant decisions on the governance of the province in accordance with the vision of the Bharatiya Janata Party Chairman Bilawar Bhutto Zardari.

He insisted that there are no restrictions or prohibitions on the appointment of people with political backgrounds as administrators.

“We could have made such appointments in municipal agencies across the province, but we did not do so,” Shah said. “We are not doing this to run [municipal] Things are going well,” he added.

In response to the governor’s remarks, he said that the governor’s office has nothing to do with politics. “He (the governor) is not a representative of the Federation, but

However, the Minister of Information did not confirm the decision to appoint Barrister Wahab as the Chief Executive. He said that so far, Barrister Wahab has not been appointed as the chief executive of Karachi. “This is just a suggestion because it also appeared in the media. Therefore, there is no problem with this appointment,” he said.

He added that Barrister Wahab does have a good personality because he is an educated person who has not been tarnished in the past. “He is an honest man, the son of the land,” Shah said, adding that the barrister Wahab is Sindh and belongs to the Urdu-speaking community.

“Earlier we had no intention of appointing him [as the administrator] But now he should become an administrator after his name has surfaced,” Shah commented. “I will now fully support him and let him be appointed as the chief executive of Karachi to serve the people of the city. Otherwise, no such decision has been made in this regard in advance,” he said.
