Glenn Maxwell equalled Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring five T20 International centuries at Adelaide Oval during the second T20I against the West Indies.

Australia, having chosen to bat after Rovman Powell’s decision, were 64-3 in the seventh over at Adelaide. Marcus Stoinis partnered with Glenn Maxwell at this juncture, and together they added 82 runs in 42 balls, with Stoinis contributing a 15-ball 16.

Tim David joined the scoring spree with an unbeaten 31 in 14 balls as the fifth-wicket pair accumulated an unbroken 95 in 38 balls. Meanwhile, at the crease, Maxwell reached his fifth T20I hundred, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav’s four centuries and equalling Rohit Sharma’s global record.

Earlier this year, Rohit had surpassed Maxwell and Surya against Afghanistan. Following the trio, with three centuries each, are Babar Azam, Colin Munro, and Sabawoon Davizi.

Maxwell achieved his century in just 50 balls, concluding his innings at 120 not out off 55 balls, featuring 12 fours and eight sixes.

Glenn Maxwell: The five T20I hundreds

103* (58), 10 fours, 4 sixes against England, Hobart 2017/18

120* (55), 12 fours, 8 sixes against West Indies, Adelaide 2022/23

During the match, Australia accumulated a total of 241-4, marking their fourth-highest score in the format.

This achievement follows their performances of 263-3 (against Sri Lanka in 2016), 248-6 (against England in 2013), and 245-5 (against New Zealand in 2017/18).

However, this stands as the highest T20I total recorded on Australian soil. Australia surpassed their previous record of 233-2, achieved against Sri Lanka at Adelaide in 2019/20.

Notably, the only T20 total larger than this on Australian grounds is the Melbourne Stars’ 273-2 against Hobart Hurricanes in the 2021/22 BBL.
