The ninth central parade of Muharram will begin today from Nistar Park in Karachi, and mourning parades across the country will pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.

“More than 700 police officers from the security department have been deployed to the parade, and 500 SSU commandos including women have also been sent to Karachi for security,” DIG police Maqsood Ahmed said in a statement. “For the safety of the central parade, 190 SSU commandos have been deployed,” DIG said.

Police officials further said: “As modern command and control buses monitor the parade, sharpshooters have been deployed on the route of high-rise buildings.”

DIG Karachi said: “The special SWAT team has also been on standby alert to deal with any adverse situations.”
