- So far, 13 suspects have been arrested, including NADRA officials, non-nationals and agents.
- The FIA stated that a suspect obtained the NIC even though it had already been registered with another person.
- Ali Mohamed Khan said that NADRA has suspended 39 officials due to reports of corruption in the Karachi office.
On Friday, the Karachi court approved the FIA to remand three entities in a forged ID card case, including a National Database and Registration Agency (NADRA) official.
The FIA arrested three suspects on July 14-the data entry operator of the NADRA Mega Centre, DHA, Karachi Muhammad Moosa Abbasi, Muhammad Ameen who obtained the counterfeit CNIC, and Agent Meraj.
So far, a total of 13 suspects have been arrested, including NADRA officials, non-nationals and agents suspected of participating in the scam.
The FIA has submitted the three suspects to the Eastern Judicial Court, during which they informed the court that one of the suspects had obtained an NIC and its serial number had been registered with another person.
“The age difference between the suspect and his father is nine years old, which is unnatural,” the FIA official told the court, adding that more time is needed for investigations, and for this reason, he should be sentenced to remand awaiting trial.
The court approved the remand and requested the FIA to submit a progress report at the next hearing.
Amir Farooqi, director of FIA Sindh, revealed the development of two NADRA officials (both assistant directors) after being arrested for “radicals and others for some illegal gains”.
The head of the Sindh province of the FIA stated at a press conference in Karachi that in exchange for money, officials issued fake NICs to radicals associated with the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), al-Qaeda and other banned groups.

“39 NADRA officials were suspended due to corruption allegations”
In a speech to the Senate on Friday, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohamed Khan informed the House of Representatives that NADRA has suspended 39 officials and raised FIRs against 10 others due to suspected corruption in the Karachi office.
The minister’s statement was issued after Senator Faisal Ali Subzwari brought to the attention of the Minister of the Interior the fake CNIC issued by NADRA.
Khan said that the report about issuing fake CNICs to a large number of people is untrue, but the investigation team is investigating the matter, and NADRA remains vigilant.
The minister said that after thorough verification through fingerprints, personal appearance, submission of certificates, letters from authorized officials, etc., CNICs are issued to eligible citizens and there is a set of procedures to ensure authenticity.
