In the budget submitted for the upcoming 2021-22 fiscal year, the Sindh Provincial Government has allocated 8 billion rupees for 19 ongoing and new large-scale development projects in Karachi.

In his budget speech on Tuesday, Chief Minister Said Murad Ali Shah stated that the government has undertaken large-scale infrastructure development and restoration projects in Karachi in the past three years.

He explained that 40 such projects have been launched with a total cost of 28 billion rupees, 20 of which were completed last year and another 20 were completed this fiscal year.

CM added that in addition to these projects, the Sindh provincial government has also invested in other major infrastructure projects for the city through public-private partnerships.These projects include a 12 km long two-lane road from Korangi Creek Causeway to PAF Airmen Golf Club, and a highway from Mauripur to Y-Junction, which is an 8 km long two-lane road that connects to the Lyari Expressway on Mauripur Road Take the ramp to junction Y of Kakapir Road

Another such project is the interchange of the ICI Bridge, which is a 3.06 km long road that starts at 0.3 km north of the intersection of the ICI Bridge and Mauripur Road, and then turns right via the viaduct to merge with the ICI Bridge to reduce the amount of traffic from the ICI Bridge. Heavy traffic pressure. city. According to the budget document, 95.9 million rupees have been allocated for the U-turn construction of the Natha Khan Bridge to be completed in June 2022. Last year, 143.9 million rupees were allocated for the project, and June 2021 was the target completion date.

The new plan includes the construction of Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan from Abdullah College to Qalandaria Chowk at an estimated cost of 1.1 billion rupees, and the construction of a road connecting Sher Shah Chowk and the intersection of Mirza Adam Khan Road in the western district at an estimated cost of 370 million rupees. The construction of the road from Gulberg Chowrangi to the UBL complex is estimated to cost 450 million rupees, the construction of an overpass at Jauhar Chowrangi is estimated to cost 6.27 billion rupees, the repair of the road to the Lyari highway is estimated to cost 200 million rupees, and the repair of the Ruth Pfau doctor for civilian use The internal roads and streets around the hospital are estimated to cost Rs 261 crore and other items.

For local governments and housing and urban planning departments, the Sindh provincial government has allocated 34.6 billion rupees for the 2021-22 fiscal year, including foreign direct assistance. Last year, the same department allocated 19.8 billion rupees.

For the water and sanitation sector, Rs 1,536 crore has been allocated for the 2021-22 fiscal year. For the solid waste management department, the amount allocated is 1.8 billion rupees. Last year, Rs 3.85 billion and Rs 1.89 billion were allocated to these two sub-sectors.

In the budget speech, CM stated that the development investment portfolio of local government departments for the current fiscal year was Rs 14.11 billion, which was used for 345 development plans. This includes 19.4 billion rupees for 19 large-scale projects.

“In the next fiscal year, we have allocated Rs 25.5 billion for 264 ongoing and 291 new development plans of local government departments. In addition, we have also proposed Rs 8 billion for large-scale Karachi projects. We will pay more attention to the ongoing projects. Plan to complete them as soon as possible,” CM said.
