AJK election: political parties agree to deploy troops at polling stations

According to reports on Wednesday, the political parties have agreed to deploy Pakistani troops at the polling stations of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections on July 25.

The publication stated that the decision was made in the context of all political party leaders attending the high-level meeting of the Election Committee, chaired by AJK Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Abdul Rashid Sulehria.

Participants of the meeting suggested to the AJK Election Committee to deploy troops at the polling station to maintain law and order on the polling day.

In its speech, the Central Election Commission urged the leaders of all political parties to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission and to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.

Fahat Alimir, a member of the Election Committee, said that the purpose of the consultation meeting with the heads of the political parties was to solicit their opinions on the deployment of the army.

He added that the Election Commission has so far taken severe action against violations of the code of conduct.

Participants also passed a resolution on the deployment of troops at polling stations.
