According to the report, of the 90 samples tested in the ICCBS laboratory on July 14, Delta variants were detected in 83 of them. Health experts say that if cases continue to increase, the number of deaths in the country may also be higher.

The health authorities said that due to the Delta variant, the number of coronavirus cases in Karachi is increasing so rapidly that the hospital is about to reach its capacity limit.

The report stated that several hospitals in Karachi, including civilian hospitals, had to postpone scheduled operations due to the increasing number of coronavirus patients admitted there, adding that the current positive rate of COVID-19 in Karachi has reached 23%.

Last week, ICCBS revealed that of the 2,062 samples tested by the agency’s laboratory, 163 were positive for COVID-19, of which 65 had the Delta variant.

Considering the highly contagious nature of this variant, the Sindh Ministry of Health recommends that everyone should restrict their activities unless absolutely necessary. The provincial government also urged the public to strictly abide by the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the coronavirus to curb the spread of the virus.

Pakistan reports more than 2,600 cases a day

According to statistics released by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), Pakistan reported 2,607 coronavirus cases on Sunday morning.

The country’s nerve center in the fight against COVID-19 said that nearly 48,816 people were tested for infection on Saturday, of which 2,603 ​​were positive.

The positive rate in Pakistan climbed to 5.34%.

The country also reported 21 deaths from infections in the past 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan has risen to 989,275, while the number of active cases in the country has increased to 47,331.

In terms of recovery, a total of 919,163 people recovered from the infection and 22,781 people died from the virus.
