Karachi: Following the surge in coronavirus cases, the Sindh Health Department implemented emergency treatment at all government hospitals across the province on Saturday.

The official notice issued in this regard stated that an emergency has been implemented in response to the increasing number of cases.

The Sindh provincial government imposed a lockdown on Friday until August 8. The ban took effect today as the province continues to fight the surge in the risk of COVID-19 infection.

COVID-19 has claimed more than 30 lives

At the same time, a statement issued on Saturday on behalf of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that a total of 30 people died from the deadly virus and 2,772 people were infected overnight.

According to the statement, the recent death toll has increased the death toll to 6,001, and the death rate is 1.6%. 18,267 samples were tested and 2,772 new infections were reported, with a positive rate of 15.1%.

The statement said that of the 2,772 new infections, Karachi alone had reported 2,200.

According to the statement, 43,000 patients were quarantined at home, 1,399 were treated in different hospitals, and 39 were treated in isolation centers.

1,221 patients are in critical condition, 108 of them use ventilators.

Vaccination center crowded with citizens

Since the Sindh provincial government warned that the SIM cards of those who have not been vaccinated against infectious diseases will be blocked, hundreds of citizens flocked to the vaccination center in Karachi today.

From day to night, there are long queues in the main vaccination centers in the city.

Sindh government spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab claimed that the Sindh government’s warning to block SIM cards will help speed up vaccination efforts.

“In Sindh, as many as 185,406 people were vaccinated within 24 hours,” Wahab said at a press conference earlier in the day.
