Out of concern, the government has asked WhatsApp to shut down this policy.

However, senior attorney Harish Salve told the court that CCI is investigating the shelved policy.

WhatsApp recently issued an ultimatum to its users, asking them to register for the updated privacy policy, otherwise they will lose their accounts.

The defendant stated in court that the functions will not be restricted for users who also do not choose the new privacy policy.

“We will not force people to accept [the policy],” the advocate told DHC.

However, WhatsApp will continue to display policy updates to its users until the data protection law comes into effect.

WhatsApp insists that the new policy is to implement e-commerce functions in the app and will not affect users’ private chats with family and friends.
