Now, the latest scam targeting WhatsApp users has surfaced. Kaspersky’s Russian security researchers revealed that the scam was entirely related to the company’s package delivery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has been forced into a lockdown over the past two years. This has led to a sharp increase in reliance on online delivery. Cybercriminals are beginning to target these online buyers.

The process the scammers follow is that they send a WhatsApp message to a user who portrays themselves as a delivery company, and then they tell the user that the package needs to be shipped to that address. They will eventually ask you to click on the link to complete the process or try to make a small payment.

Kaspersky warns people not to think about clicking on these fake links, or even forget to actually do so. First, they should remember whether they ordered something. Fraudsters take advantage of the weakness of people blindly clicking on links.

After someone clicks on such a link, it will point to a fake website that asks for more detailed information or cash on delivery. Ask users for detailed information about debit cards, credit cards, and online banking. However, under no circumstances should anyone provide such sensitive information.

Kaspersky said, “Unexpected packages requiring payment by the recipient are still one of the most common tactics in the past quarter.”
