Lahore: The Lahore City Wall Authority (WCLA) celebrated World Music Day at Delhi Gate on Monday to commemorate amateur and professional musicians. The main purpose of the celebration is to provide free music to everyone, because this day is widely celebrated all over the world as World Music Day. WCLA officials said that historically, amateur musicians are encouraged to perform on this day. It is worth noting that for the first time such celebrations were held within the walls of Lahore. In order to promote folk music, WCLA arranged Dhol, Garvi singers, Aik Tara players, Dholki Tappy, flute and Harmonium musicians and performers in Delhi Gate in the Walled City to revitalize Lahore’s declining cultural music. The Lahore Wall Sarangi School operated by WCLA also staged a performance at Sabeel Wali Gali. WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said that Lahore is the center of Pakistan’s material and intangible heritage, and we have the responsibility to promote local music to arouse the interest of the masses.
