Lahore: Professor Javed Akram, vice president of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), said that the country’s first medical journalism teaching department will be established at UHS, and the medical journalism master’s degree program will be launched soon.

In a speech at the certificate issuing ceremony organized here on Wednesday, Professor Javed Akram said that although some good research is currently underway, Pakistan lacks high-quality medical journals to publish it. “In terms of population, only three medical journals in the world’s sixth largest country have an impact factor,” he added. Professor Javed further stated that the school has opened a medical editor pioneer certificate course to promote research and medical writing.

Subsequently, certificates were issued to the second batch of successful students in the medical editing certificate course. A total of 33 participants received certificates. Course participants include selected faculty and staff from medical schools and dental schools across the country. The top three candidates at the award ceremony also received cash prizes.
