A Hollywood film co-produced by the UAE Film Company was condemned as “immoral” and “ridiculous” for portraying Qatar as a “terrorist country”.

The Misfits, co-produced, filmed and funded by FilmGate Production and Paramount Pictures and Highland Film Group, based in the UAE, tells the story of the savvy thief Richard Pace, played by Pierce Brosnan, who escaped from the heavily guarded US prison. Continue to steal millions of dollars from the safest facilities in the world.

According to Doha News, in the film, the director referred to Qatar as the “Peninsula” and accused its citizens of supporting “terrorist organizations,” while the mercenaries in Abu Dhabi were portrayed as heroes.

It added that the film portrays Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian Muslim scholar living in Qatar, as “the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and a supporter of global terrorism.”

‘absurd’

The report quoted the Egyptian journalist Mohamed Nasser as saying that in a video posted online, the “unsocial” was nothing more than an attempt by the UAE to “destroy Qatar’s reputation.”

A Twitter user who watched a leaked copy of the movie described it as “ridiculous” and not worthy of feedback.

“The people who fund this nonsense are ashamed,” he added.

Palestinian journalist Jamal Rayyan described the film as “immoral.”

In a series of tweets, Qatari scholar Muhammad Kubaisi also criticized the film.

“May God bless the leaders of the UAE forever. They are using Hollywood to make a movie called The Misfits, spending more than $50 million to damage Qatar’s reputation and accuse its peaceful terrorist society,” he said.

“I don’t know why the UAE is damaging the reputation of Qatar? Is it because we are Muslims, united with Allah, does it want to eliminate Islam and Muslims? Does the UAE want to keep Qatar away from the essence of Islam and support Muslims around the world? “

More than three years after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates imposed a blockade on Doha, a few months after Qatar and its neighbors re-established relations, developments occurred.

Qatar and UAE officials met in February this year for the first time since the easing. In January, the UAE resumed its air and sea entry points into Qatar.
