- Pakistani students will be isolated in the dormitory.
- Pakistanis who have valid residency rights are also exempt from hotel quarantine on work visas.
- The rule is effective from now until September 1.
The Turkish government on Friday exempted Pakistani and Afghan students from compulsory isolation in hotels and allowed them to self-isolate in the dormitories of higher education credit and dormitory institutions.
The Pakistani Embassy in Ankara said in a statement that the rule will take effect from today until September 1, 2021.
The statement said: “Students will be quarantined in the MuhteÅŸem Süleyman Dormitory of the Higher Education Credit and Dormitory Institute (KYK) in Istanbul and the Tahsin BanguoÄŸlu KYK Dormitory in Ankara.”
The statement stated that valid student identification documents are required to prove that they are receiving higher education in Turkey.
Pakistani students studying at a university in a province other than Istanbul or Ankara can only go to the KYK dormitory in Istanbul or Ankara after the end of the quarantine period to go to the province where their registered university is located.
Those from Pakistan with valid residence and work permits will be exempt from hotel quarantine and will spend the mandatory quarantine period in their residences.
However, such persons can only travel to the residence by private car, and cannot take domestic flights or public transportation.
The statement added: “Except for school students and Turkish residence or work permit holders, people from Pakistan for visits or tourism purposes will be quarantined in designated private hotels in accordance with previous practices.”
Before Turkey changed its travel policy, a 10-day compulsory quarantine was imposed on people who came to the country from Afghanistan or Pakistan.
Turkish nationals returning from Afghanistan or Pakistan will also be exempt from hotel quarantine.
The announcement stated: “After entering the country, the designated personnel in this group will complete the quarantine procedures at their residences.”
