Instagram users continue to express concerns about the platform’s new sensitive content filter because the feature is blocking their posts.

According to a report, Instagram account holders have issued warnings to their fans when posting in feeds and stories, saying that the setting limits their reach, and their fans should disable filters to ensure their posts are passed .

“In the past 24 hours, I have had many conversations with artists and other creators, and they are very frustrated because their work is hidden. On the contrary, people are frustrated by not being able to find what they want to watch,” Philip M. Na, an artist and creator of the queer hobby magazine “Nature Pursuit”, wrote in an article.

He told The Verge that a post by Philip earlier that reminded people of the filter has exceeded 700,000 people and has been shared 192,000 times as of this morning. He said that users from various communities, including the art world, tattoo artists, etc., have noticed it and have similar concerns.

The sensitivity filter was launched by Instagram on Tuesday, allowing people to set limits on how much potentially sensitive content they might see on the “Explore” page. This feature should filter out content such as self-harm content and is turned on by default.

But according to Instagram, creators should not worry! The app has already limited the amount of sensitive content that people see on their “exploration” page, and “filtering is retained by default.” Through the options launched on Tuesday, users can further restrict sensitive content or allow more sensitive content to surface.

A spokesperson told The Verge that if people choose to allow more sensitive content on their “exploration” pages, some users may even see an increase in discoverability due to this change. With this change for users in their feeds or in stories, “we will continue to show them posts from people they follow,” the spokesperson said.

Instagram defines the “sensitive content” function in its “recommendation guide”, which is only applicable to content recommended in places such as “exploration” and “IGTV discovery”, which is broader than its “community guide”.

According to The Verge, contrary to content that violates its community guidelines, the app still allows content that is considered sensitive, but Instagram may reduce the frequency of its appearance, especially for users who set the sensitivity limit to the lowest level .

A spokesperson did not specify how much sensitive content users can see on their “Explore” page in any of the three available settings. This feature covers sensitive content, such as nudity, sexually explicit content, tobacco-related content, or drug-related content, both of which are considered sensitive content.

According to The Verge, “Instagram is clearly trying to give people more control. The photo-sharing platform is also unclear whether people who want to disable filters will suddenly see a lot of unwanted weight loss content or violent images. Although in the end, Instagram Most of the content will not change because of this new setting, and the communication about it should change.”
