These are five constituencies worthy of attention

Must Read

The 45 general constituencies of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be contested on Sunday, when voters will go to the polling station in five years.

All three major parties in Pakistan-the ruling PTI, PPP and PML-N-are in competition. The last time AJK held a general election was in 2016, when the central government PML-N formed a government.

Who will win this time? Although the final results will be announced on Sunday, political commentators and experts are paying close attention to these five highly competitive constituencies:

LA-3 Milpool

Participants: Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary of PTI and Chaudhary Muhammad Saeed of PML-N

background: In 2016, Said defeated Chowdhury in the electoral district with only 3,000 votes. But Said was later declared unqualified by the court and a by-election must be held. In the by-polls, Chaudhry won and was elected member of the legislative assembly.

On Sunday, the two rivals Said and Chowdhury will face off again.

Constituency issues: Construction of the Rathoa Haryam Bridge in Milpool, clean drinking water and load shedding.

LA 7 Bhimber

Participants: PTI’s Chaudhary Anwar ul Haq vs. PML-N’s Chaudhary Tariq Farooq

background: Former Speaker Anwar ul Haq, who recently joined PTI, is opposed to Senior Minister Tariq Farooq, who has achieved three successes in this constituency. In 2016, Farooq defeated Haq by more than 2,000 votes. Huck was an independent candidate at the time.

Constituency issues: Unemployed, clean drinking water, no gas, no proper sanitation facilities.

Los Angeles 10 Cotley

Participants: Muhammad Yasin of PPP vs Farooq Sikandar of Muslim Conference vs Malik Muhammad Yousaf of PTI

background: This is an urban constituency where former senior minister and opposition leader Mohamed Yassin participated in the first election. He is also a candidate for the electoral district in his hometown. His main rival is former prime minister and president Farooq Sikander Hayat’s son, Farooq Sikandar, who was elected as MNA from this constituency in 2016 on a PMLN ticket.

At the same time, Yousaf had previously competed for PMLN tickets twice, and has now switched to PTI.

Constituency issues: Clean drinking water, no proper sewer system, unemployment

LA 14 Bagh

Participants: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Muslim Conference Sardar Ateeq Ahmed Khan vs. PTI’s Major Lateef Khaleeq

background: Khaleeq previously worked at Jamaat-e-Islami. This constituency is considered the winning constituency of the Muslim Conference because in 2016, Ahmed Khan won with more than 30,000 votes and Khaleeq ranked third.

Constituency issues: The biggest problem is water, because the constituency is in the mountains and there is no natural spring water. More than 100 schools opened without proper structure and the road conditions are also very poor.

LA 15 Bagh

Participants: Tanveer Ilyas of PTI vs. Mushtaq Minhas of PML-N vs. Raja Yaseen of the Muslim Conference

background: It was the first time Ilias participated in the competition, but he was supported by the powerful and well-known PTI team. He was also nominated as a possible candidate for the Prime Minister of AJK. Another advantage of Ulysses is the resignation of Abdul Rashid Turabi of JI in favor of Ulysses.

Minhas is a former journalist, and Yaseen was formerly a senior minister in Parliament.

Constituency issues: Dilapidated roads, declining load, lack of education and sanitation facilities, unemployment
