The United States found that Pakistan is only useful in the Afghan peace process: PM Khan

Must Read

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has made it clear that Pakistan will not provide the United States (US) with air bases to launch attacks in Afghanistan.

When talking to foreign journalists at his home in Islamabad, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan had persuaded the Taliban to negotiate with the Afghan government and brought them to the negotiating table, but Ashraf Ghani’s actions showed that he was not ready to negotiate. “It seems that Ghani is trying to persuade the United States to intervene another time,” he said. He added that Pakistan is only considered useful only in the context of the Afghan peace process, because the United States has made India its strategic partner. “I think the Americans have now decided that India is their strategic partner, and I think that’s why there is a different way of treating Pakistan now,” Khan said. Khan said that under current conditions, a political settlement in Afghanistan looks difficult, and added that the United States is trying to solve the Afghan issue through the military, but it has failed miserably. The prime minister said that Pakistan has “clearly stated” that it does not wish to have any US military bases in Pakistan after the U.S. forces withdraw from Afghanistan. The US military continues to use airstrikes to support the Afghan army’s offensive against the Taliban, but it is unclear whether this support will continue after August 31.
