Lahore: On Friday, the Provincial Review Committee rejected the government’s request to extend the detention of the banned Pakistan Labor Organization (TLP) head Hafiz Saad Hussein Rizvi.
The committee is composed of three people, including Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, Justice Alia Nilam and Justice Sadakat Ali Khan.
After Hafiz Saad Rizvi’s 90-day detention period expired, he appeared before the board of directors of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Government officials assisted the board of directors during the filming process and demanded that the detention of the head of the TLP be extended.
The board also rejected the application for extension of the detention of Rizvi’s political party activists Usman and Wazir Ali.
During the board hearing, a large number of police officers were deployed in the LHC and surrounding areas.
After the hearing, Rizvi’s lawyer Burhan Moazzam said that the review process is still a few days away. He said that the decision on whether to apply for bail in other cases will be made at a later stage.
Saad Rizvi was arrested in April.
The federal government declared TLP a banned organization under the anti-terrorism law that month and carried out extensive suppression of the party.
This action took place after several days of violent protests and traffic interruptions in major cities in Pakistan. Public and private property were destroyed by gangs of gangs holding sticks and randomly attacking law enforcement officials.
