The Prime Minister’s internal affairs and accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar announced on Saturday that the PTI-led federal government has decided to investigate India’s use of Pegasus spyware to monitor public figures in the country, including Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He announced the news at a press conference in Islamabad accompanied by Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.

SAPM stated that the federal government has decided to investigate the Pegasus spyware scandal and will soon announce a committee to investigate the matter.

“Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, intelligence agency FIA, and other security agencies will be included in the committee to investigate what kind of information leaked by NSO’s Pegasus spyware,” he said.

Shahzad Akbar further stated that the committee will also determine whether India’s cyber attacks on well-known Pakistani figures are still successful. He said that the investigation will take two to three months to complete.

“India used Pegasus spyware to attack Pakistan’s sovereignty. Pakistan will also raise this issue with the relevant UN agencies,” he said, adding that Pakistan will use all legal options to protect its integrity and sovereignty.

SAPM shared: “At least three numbers used by Prime Minister Imran Khan have also become targets of NSO Group and its Pegasus spyware.”

It is worth mentioning here that at least two dozen mobile phones of senior Pakistani defense and intelligence officials were allegedly targeted by technology owned by the Israeli spyware company NSO Group.

The report quoted an unnamed person familiar with the matter as saying that an analysis of 1,400 people whose mobile phones were the focus of hacker attacks earlier this year revealed suspected privacy violations.

Fawad criticized Nawaz for meeting with Afghan National Security Agency
In his speech, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry criticized the top leader of PML-N and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for meeting with Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdura Mohib, saying that this “proves his connection with Pakistan’s enemies”.

The Federal Minister also requested that the audio recording of the meeting between Nawaz and the Afghan National Security Agency be released. He said that PML-N should clarify this.

Earlier, Fawad said in a tweet: “It is dangerous to send Nawaz Sharif abroad because these people will help in international conspiracies.”

“Modi, Mohib or Amrullah Saleh, every enemy of Pakistan is a close friend of Nawaz Sharif,” he added.
