On Friday, a group of armed robbers stole 1 million rupees and mobile phones from staff and visitors at the Ehsas project center in Gulshan-e-Iqbal 5 district.
As many as six robbers took the staff and the public hostage with guns and robbed the staff and the public at the center. They stole more than 1 million rupees from the cash counter and stole the mobile phones of staff and visitors. After committing the crime, they managed to escape.
According to visitors who went to the office to collect aid supplies, the six armed men arrived on three motorcycles and no police were present at the time of the incident. After receiving the news, the police rushed to the scene of the crime to investigate the robbery. They also obtained CCTV footage of the incident, showing the robbers fled the scene after completing a quick action. The police subsequently opened a case against the unidentified suspect.
At the same time, Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) Karachi President Kurum Sher Zaman condemned the incident and condemned the absence of police at the center. He said in a press statement issued after the incident: “The robbers conveniently took the money that should have been allocated to the poor from the staff of the Ehsaas Center.”
“The robbers deprived the staff and the poor of their cash. This proves that the criminals involved have been blatantly wandering in the city.” He asked the Sindh police chief to arrest the robbers immediately.
