The Civil Aviation Administration instructs international airlines to accommodate passengers affected by flight cancellations at the “earliest”

On Friday, the Civil Aviation Administration instructed international airlines to provide accommodation for passengers affected by recent flight cancellations with “flights as early as possible”.

“The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has taken a serious approach to foreign airlines, namely Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Dubai Airways, as the cancellation of flights in recent weeks has brought passengers Inconvenience,” the Civil Aviation Administration said in a statement on Twitter.

The aviation authority stated that it has noticed that a large number of passengers have been issued confirmed tickets, but their flights have been cancelled. It added that the move caused “unease” and “inconvenience” to passengers.

The Civil Aviation Administration stated that “such reservations should be made only after confirming the removal of restrictions”.

The Civil Aviation Administration said: “A large number of affected passengers are facing huge nuisance and economic losses, whether it is hotel accommodation or living expenses, because they plan to depart from abroad to Pakistan according to the scheduled/confirmed flight departure date.”

The authorities require airlines to arrange “the affected passengers to Pakistan and hotel accommodation on the earliest possible flight of the same airline or other airlines.” It also stated that passengers should be arranged when they need it.

“In addition, airlines have been instructed to provide accommodation for passengers who choose to refund their tickets. In addition to compensating for their losses, they should also pay 100% of the amount paid to the airline,” CAA said.

The authorities also raised “serious concerns” about the airline’s “irresponsible statement” that blamed CAA for flight cancellations.

“It’s worth emphasizing that the airline made the booking without confirming the cancellation of inbound international flight operation restrictions,” the Civil Aviation Administration said. It also requires airlines to submit cancelled compliance reports.

The authorities stated that failure to do so may force the Civil Aviation Administration to “take regulatory actions in the form of fines, cancellation of one or more flights, and withdrawal of regular authorizations to airlines.”

Earlier, the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) shared that the Civil Aviation Administration “strongly noticed” the cancellation of some international airlines’ flights.

“Despite clear instructions, cancellation of flights has caused problems for passengers travelling to Pakistan,” NCOC said. It added that the Civil Aviation Administration has issued a warning to airlines to cancel flights.

The country’s nerve center in the fight against the coronavirus said that after the international and Pakistani coronavirus situation has improved, the agency has gradually increased the number of flights from abroad.

“From June 15 to now, the number of passengers has increased from 4,000 to 8,000,” NCOC said. It added that CAA has also increased the capacity of flights from the UK, Europe, Canada, China and Malaysia from 20% to 40%.

NCOC stated that Pakistan has established a “strong system to prevent the spread of the coronavirus” and added that passengers on inbound flights are subject to routine testing and quarantine.

“So far, 280,000 people from foreign countries have been tested and 600 of them have been reported and isolated positive cases,” NCOC said.
