The Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Sunday that monsoon rains in Karachi are expected to begin in mid-July. The Bureau of Meteorology said the city’s temperature was recorded as 31 degrees Celsius and the wind speed was 20 kilometers per hour.

The Governor of Sindh Province Imran Ismail sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Sindh Province Said Murad Ali Shah, urging all stakeholders to work together before the arrival of the new monsoon to avoid a repeat of last year’s The tragic events that occurred during the heavy rains in the city.

In the letter dated June 16, the governor shared how the torrential rains in Karachi last year led to tragic events, and stated that CM, as the chief executive of the province, should mobilize all relevant agencies.

Ismail said that saving people’s lives is one of the government’s top tasks. He said that in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order, clearing storm drains and removing encroachment on and along their river banks will help to take specific measures to prevent the recurrence of the situation like last year.

He also stated that K-Electric, Hyderabad Power Supply Company and Sukkur Electric Power Company have been instructed to take necessary measures before the monsoon within their jurisdiction to avoid power outages during rains.

The governor shared that the camp committee has also been instructed to deal with rain-related issues. He said that now is the time for all stakeholders to work together and to ensure full support on behalf of the federal government.
