The Afghan delegation calls Pakistan a “major participant” in Afghan affairs

Islamabad: The delegation of Afghan politicians in Pakistan described Islamabad as a “major participant” in Afghan affairs.

One day after the Taliban took control of Kabul, a delegation of Afghan leaders composed of Speaker Wolesi Jirga Mir Rehman Rehmani, Salahud din Rabbani, Mohammad Yunus Qanooni, Ustad Mohammad Karim Khalili, Ahmad Zia Massoud, Ahmad Wali Massoud, Abdul Latif Pedram and Khalid Nur arrived Pakistan.

The delegation said at today’s press conference: “We held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Commander-in-Chief Kamal Javed Bajwa and DG ISI.”

“We will especially thank the Army Chief of Staff and DG ISI,” it added, saying that Pakistan has agreed to expand cooperation in the coming days.

The delegation stated that Arab-Pakistani relations will open a new chapter and believe that Islamabad is an important participant in achieving regional peace. It said that Pakistan sent a positive message at the meeting to discuss the way forward for Afghanistan.

The delegation clarified that it had held a meeting with Pakistan’s leaders to specifically request the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, adding that one of its main requirements promoted by the masses was women’s rights.

It warned the Taliban that if it “repeats the mistakes of the past,” it will not survive for long, adding that the seizure of territory and the management of it during a conflict are two different things.

“So far, everything the Taliban has said is just empty talk,” the delegation said. “Their actions will make a difference.”

The delegation further stated that Afghanistan today is very different from Afghanistan in 1966, adding that young people are more inclined to technology.

The delegation of Afghanistan stated that it hopes to establish an inclusive government that can represent different groups in Afghanistan. “We want to protect the rights of minorities, women and freedom of the press,” it said.

The Afghan leader slammed Ashraf Ghani, saying that it was clear from the first day of the conflict that the president would flee.

“Ashraf Ghani said he left the country with only sandals. If the allegations are credible, he absconded with US$69 million,” the delegation said.

The delegation of Afghan leaders expressed their hope to establish peaceful relations with Pakistan and added that everything that happened in the past should not be repeated.

“We chose Pakistan as the first country to seek support,” it added.
