Teacher KU was sentenced to three years in prison for harassing colleagues

On Wednesday, the city court sentenced a male teacher at Karachi University to three years in prison for harassing a female colleague on a social media site. Dr. Farhan Kamrani, an assistant professor in the KU Department of Psychology, was convicted of creating a fake Facebook account in her name and harassing a female teacher.
District and Conference Judge (East) Khalid Hussain Shahani also imposed a fine of 1.1 million rupees on the offender. Failure to pay will result in additional imprisonment. After the verdict was announced, the judge cancelled the bail granted to the defendant, and he was subsequently arrested by the court and remanded to prison to serve his sentence.
The female teacher filed a complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIA) in 2016, saying that someone posted a link to her profile containing fake pornographic photos on the page of the University of Greenwich.
According to the special prosecutor Zakir Hussein, the FIA sought the help of social media sites and tracked the defendant to his residence, and found on his laptop that the Facebook account had been used on this computer evidence of.
However, defense lawyer Ahsanullah Khan opposed the charges, saying that the prosecution’s story had loopholes because the laptop was neither sent for forensic analysis nor appeared in court as evidence. He claimed that his client was wrongly implicated in the case.
At the end of the trial, the judge said that the prosecution had successfully established the charges against the defendant, while on the other hand, he had failed to prove his innocence.
The court sentenced the defendant to a crime punishable under Article 21 of the Law on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (modest behavior against natural persons and minors) and sentenced to three years in prison.
He was punished under Article 419 of the Pakistan Criminal Code (Punishment for Counterfeiting and Fraud), and the court sentenced him to another three years in prison and two years for crimes punishable under Article 500 (Punishment for Defamation) of the Pakistan Penal Code imprisonment.
