Tajikistan hands over relief goods to flood-devastated Pakistan


Tajikistan on Thursday handed over relief goods for flood victims loaded on 80 vehicles to the government of Pakistan as a goodwill gesture.

The relief goods were received by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Engineer Amir Muqam during a ceremony at Jamrood NLC Terminal in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa which was also attended by Ambassador of Tajikistan Ismatullah Nazir.

The relief goods included 500 tonnes of wheat, 1,000 tonnes of cement, 1,000 tonnes of coal and 500 tonnes of cotton. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will distribute the goods to the people in flood-affected areas.

On the occasion, Ambassador Ismatullah said that the aid has been sent by the government and people of Tajikistan for the people of the brotherly Muslim country Pakistan at this difficult time.

Amir Maqam said that floods have wreaked havoc in four provinces and AJK and G-B in which at least 1,400 people have died, thousands have been injured and millions have been displaced.

He thanked the Tajik diplomat for the kind gesture.
