The Federal Ministry of Finance has submitted a summary to the Federal Cabinet, proposing a special allowance equal to 15% of the basic salary of military officers and youth.

The ministry had sought permission from Prime Minister Imran Khan to approve the special allowance, but the Prime Minister directed it to discuss the matter with the Cabinet.

According to sources within the ministry, due to the delay in the pay and pension committee’s mid-term report on federal employee wage increases, the basic salary of civil servants has increased by 10%, in addition to an increase of 25%. Special allowance, a total increase of 35%.

Now, based on the recommendations of the Compensation and Pensions Committee, a summary has been submitted to the Cabinet, proposing to increase the salary by 10% and provide a special allowance of 15% as announced in the 2021-22 budget.

According to the Ministry of Finance, since the wages of military employees have not increased in the past two years, a special allowance of 15% is recommended to make up for the gap in the wage structure.

If the Cabinet approves an increase of 15%, an additional increase of 38 billion rupees will be required.

In response, PML-N General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal stated that such “biased decisions help deepen military-civilian disagreements.”

“Inflation is the same for all employees. A 15% special salary allowance must be given to all civilian and military employees.”
