Pakistan’s military media affairs department said on Wednesday that a Pakistani army soldier died while fighting terrorists at a checkpoint in the South Waziristan area.
In a statement, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) stated that officials at the Kannikulam checkpoint in the area “observed and participated” terrorists.
The statement added that during the “fierce exchange of fire”, one of the terrorists was killed and a 42-year-old soldier, Naib Subedar Sonay Zai, was seriously injured and later died from his injuries.
The martyred soldier came from Dera Ismail Khan.
The military statement further stated that the search in the area is “ongoing” to eliminate any remaining terrorists.
“The Pakistani army is determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism, and this sacrifice of our brave soldiers further strengthens our determination,” it added.
At least two soldiers were killed in multiple terrorist attacks in South Waziristan this month.
In the first attack, a soldier was attacked and martyred at a checkpoint in the Zangala area on August 1, and another soldier was wounded.
In the second attack last week, a soldier was killed after terrorists opened fire on troops sent by a military post in Sararogha because of suspicious activity observed in his area of responsibility.
ISPR said at the time that due to the effective response of the troops, one terrorist was killed and the other was wounded and arrested.
ISPR stated that during the exchange of fire, Naik Zia ud Din was seriously injured and accepted martyrdom.
