Shebaz Sharif rejects Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Kashmir referendum proposal

PML-N President Sheikhbaz Sharif rejected Prime Minister Imran Khan’s proposal to hold a referendum on Kashmir to decide whether Kashmiris want to live with Pakistan or as an independent country.

In a statement issued today, the opposition leader of the National Assembly slammed the prime minister, saying that Imran Khanniyazi’s proposal for a referendum deviated from Pakistan’s historical and constitutional position.

“Except for Pakistan’s historic position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the UN Security Council resolution, the whole country refuses to accept anything else,” Shebaz said in a strong response to Prime Minister Khan’s statement during the AJK rally Say.

When speaking at an election rally in Talal Qahar on Friday, the prime minister promised the people of Kashmir that his government would hold a referendum and they could choose to join Pakistan or become an independent country.
