SHC restrains Sindh police from arresting Azam Swati in further cases

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday restrained the provincial police from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati in further cases and also directed the inspector general (IG) to review all first information reports (FIR) filed against the leader.

According to Express News, a two-member bench headed by Justice Karim Khan Agha heard the case related to the senator.

During the hearing, Justice Agha asked the IG how can an FIR be registered in each province regarding the same incident.

The court then issued an order not to arrest Swati in further cases and directed the provincial top cop to submit record of all FIRs related to the senator.

Justice Agha also instructed IG Sindh and prosecutor general Sindh to review the said FIRs and submit a report.

The court then adjourned the hearing related to Swati's cases till December 15.

It is pertinent to note that Usman Swati, son of Azam Swati, had filed a new petition against his father's arrest in Sindh and had requested an immediate hearing.

The PTI senator was handed over to the custody of Sindh police in Quetta on December 9 just hours after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) ordered the quashing of all FIRs registered against him in the province over his controversial tweets against the military high-ups and release him if he was not wanted in any other case.

On November 27, the senator was taken into custody for the second time after a raid at his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing for allegedly tweeting against senior military officials.

Since then, multiple cases had been registered against the senator, including in Sindh and Balochistan.
