Former Pakistan captain Shahid Khan Afridi arrives in Muzaffarabad, the venue of the 2021 Kashmir Premier League.

The cricket superstar is the brand ambassador of the KPL event and he announced his arrival on social media. On Instagram, the 44-year-old player, commonly known as Boom Boom Afridi, shared some photos after arriving in this scenic city.

“Beautiful Muzaffarabad! It’s great to be here to participate in KPL,” Afridi wrote for the post. “This is an ideal opportunity for young Kashmiri people to showcase their talents on the big stage,” he wrote.

The first edition of KPL will begin in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, on August 6. The premier cricket tournament will last ten days.

As of August 17, the league will have six teams competing for this famous trophy in 18 games. These teams are the Rawalakot Eagles, the Kotley Lions, the Millpool Royals, the Muzaffarabad Tigers, the Overseas Warriors and the Bagh Stallions.

The Mirpur Royals will compete under the captain of Shoaib Malik, Bagh Stallions will compete with captain Shadab Khan for the trophy, and the Muzaffarabad Tigers will fight under the leadership of Muhammed Hafeez. Imad Wasim will lead the Overseas Warriors, Fakhar Zaman will lead the Kotli Lions, and Afridi will lead the Rawalakot Hawks.

On July 31, Afridi condemned the Cricket Control Commission of India (BCCI) for attempting to disrupt the tournament by threatening foreign players to participate in the KPL.

Afridi ignored the threat from India and said that Pakistan’s cricket match will be held as planned.

“It’s really disappointing that BCCI once again confuses cricket with politics! KPL is a league for cricket fans in Kashmir, Pakistan and all over the world. We will hold a wonderful performance and will not be intimidated by this behavior! !” Afridi said in response to a tweet from former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs.

The BCCI dispute was raised by Gibbs, who accused the BCCI of warning the Cricket Committee that if their former players participate in the KPL, they will not be allowed to participate in Indian cricket matches at any level or in any capacity.

BCCI threatens foreign players

BCCI was upset about the KPL held in Pakistan and issued a warning to other cricket committees last week to allow their players to participate in the KPL.

Under the threat of the Indian Cricket Committee, several foreign cricket players withdrew from the game. However, KPL Chairman Arif Malik has stated that the game will proceed as scheduled, adding that Pakistani cricketers will participate.

The source said that the Indian board threatened foreign players through their agents, saying that if they went to Kashmir, the gates of Indian cricket, including IPL, would be closed to them.

The six foreign cricket players who withdrew from KPL are Monty Panesar, Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah and Tenu Best.
