Sindh Education Minister Said Ghani slammed NAB Chairman Javid Iqbal on Friday, claiming that the government is using a video from the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau to blackmail him.
The minister made a speech at a press conference in Karachi and severely criticized the NAB chief.
Ghani said that the chairman of the National Bank abused the law and targeted political opponents of the government.
“Due to the actions of the chairman of the National Bank, people committed suicide,” Ghani said. “If he is blackmailed by the government, then maybe he should resign,” the Sindh minister added.
He accused the anti-corruption agency of protecting PTI MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh, saying that NAB was worried that Sheikh would be arrested by the anti-corruption agency and therefore launched an investigation into the PTI leader to prevent his arrest.
Ghani accused the National Bank of threatening him with terrible consequences. The BJP leader stated that he was not afraid of the anti-corruption bureau’s tactics, adding that he would “fight liars and liars”.
He accused NAB of “illegal interference” in the daily affairs of the government, adding that the PPP has always stated that NAB and the national economy cannot operate together.
In answering a question, Ghani regretted the scuffle between NAB staff and PPP staff when the former arrived at the home of Ijaz Jakhrani, an assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, to arrest him.
“Jakhrani, I’m sure, didn’t ask [his supporters] Attack Kookmin Bank personnel,” he added.
The minister stated that former President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP senior MNA Khursheed Shah were targeted for political reasons.
NAB refutes Ghani’s allegations
A day ago, National Bank refuted Ghani’s remarks against the bureau, saying that these remarks were not only untrue, unfounded and misleading, but also that they were intended to influence the cases of PPP leaders Syed Khursheed Shah and Jakhrani.
On Thursday, Ghani criticized the National Bank for trying to arrest the party leader Jahrani. The NAB press release stated that Ghani’s statement “misled the public in the NAB case. The court’s proceedings will be reviewed in accordance with Article 31 of the NAB Regulations and the law will decide on its own.”
National Bank stated that it had submitted two letters of recommendation to Jahrani, the prison adviser to the Chief Minister of Sindh. These cases are being heard by the Sukkur Accountability Court, and the Sindh High Court cancelled on June 25, 2021. He was released on bail before arrest in the third case.
It said that “when the NAB Sukkur team arrived at the Aijaz Jakhrani home in Jacobabad to arrest him, a large number of angry people attacked the NAB team and in addition to damaging their vehicles, they also injured NAB officials.”
