Authorities stated that the operation has been suspended due to the delayed arrival of the barge. However, they added that the operation will resume tomorrow.

The three-day operation to rescue the ship finally began on Tuesday.

According to shipping experts, the rescue order should have been issued before the ship was seized.

Experts said that only abandoned ships can be seized like this, and a ship that has not been abandoned by the owner or crew cannot be seized by the Karachi Port Authority.

In addition, if the ship must be detained for different reasons (such as paying dues), the authorities will need a court order.

In addition, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant to Maritime Affairs Mahmoud Mulvey stated that it is possible to request custody under the Criminal Shipping Law based on the breakdown of the ship.

Moulvi said: “There is a provision in the law that prevents ships, so we will not allow them to take away ships before they pay for the ship’s safety and clean up other expenses.”
