Senator Faisal Javed said Tuesday that rapists and sex offenders should “be role models.”
PTI members shared his views on public executions of such criminals on Twitter. In a tweet, the senator stated that a consensus must be reached on the public execution of sex offenders.
He said that the abusers of children and women “are not humans, but savage beasts, and should lead by example.”
PTI members stated that in addition to legislation, it is important to implement the above-mentioned legislation and prosecute offenders.
Faisal Javed’s statement comes at a time when crimes against women and children are on the rise.
Recently, on July 30, the Minister of State for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul, delivered a speech in Parliament that after the recent reports of a large number of rape and murder cases, Pakistan’s anti-rape law needs to be implemented.
Gul announced that the Pakistani government has become the plaintiff in the murder and rape of women and children for the first time.
She added that the government has set aside 100 million rupees from the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) funds for the anti-rape law fund to assist in the implementation of the law.
The Anti-Rape Ordinance was signed into law by Prime Minister Imran Khan in December 2020. According to the ordinance, the fast-track court will hear rape cases and render a verdict within four months.
The law also provides for the establishment of a national register of sex offenders and chemical castration of sex offenders.
However, to date, no offenders have been punished under the Anti-Rape Law.
