Raiders, Sakun Barkley, NFL Twitter react to Carl Nassib’s coming out: “Proud of you, Carl”

Raiders defensive end Carnassib becomes the first active NFL player Coming out as a gay Monday night.

Nassib announced the news on Instagram and stated that he would donate US$100,000 to Trevor Project, An organization focused on suicide prevention in the LGBTQ+ community.

Nassib’s announcement quickly spread throughout the NFL and quickly received positive messages from players, teams and executives. These include some heartfelt comments from Raiders owner Mark Davis.

In other words, at least one player does not want people to forget Michael Sam, another trailblazer at the NFL level.

Sam came out as a gay before the 2014 NFL Draft and was selected by the Rams in the seventh round. However, he did not enter the team’s 53-man roster as a rookie, so he never appeared on the NFL’s active roster.
