Sources said on Friday that Pakistan’s two most populous provinces, Sindh and Punjab, are facing a shortage of coronavirus vaccines. So far, the country’s total vaccinations account for only 2% of the total population.

The situation in Lahore seems bleak. According to the Punjab Ministry of Health, only 4 of the 23 vaccination centers are vaccinating, adding that the number of vaccination centers has been reduced due to the shortage of vaccines.

The vaccine is now only administered in the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Research Institute, Expo Center, Minar-e-Pakistan and Railway Pharmacy.

The source said that before the shortage, 60,000-50,000 people were vaccinated every day, while 35,625 injections were given on June 16, and 23,425 people were vaccinated on June 17.

At the same time, Bahawalnagar’s vaccine stocks have been completely depleted, and Gujranwala’s stocks are expected to end today.

However, the Punjab Health Department stated that the vaccine will be delivered on June 19, after which the vaccination procedure will resume as usual from June 20.

Nearly 40% of vaccination centers in Sindh have stopped vaccination

Similarly, according to the Ministry of Health of Sindh Province, the situation in Karachi is also worrying, as the 90 COVID-19 vaccination centers have run out of vaccines.

According to sources, small vaccination centers in Korangi, central, southern, eastern and western regions are facing shortages.

There are 26 centers in the east zone, 13 in the west zone, 13 in the central zone, 8 in Mariel, 8 in Kolange, and 22 in the south.

The shortage is related to AstraZeneca, single-dose PakVac and Konok, while Sinopharm will leave it to those who need a second dose.

According to sources, in Sindh province, 40% of vaccination centers have stopped vaccination procedures due to shortages. The provincial health department stated that stocks will arrive soon and vaccination procedures will resume smoothly from June 20.

When will more doses arrive?

At the same time, sources from the Federal Ministry of Health said that in addition to another 3 million doses of raw materials, approximately 8 million doses of coronavirus vaccine will arrive from China between June 20 and 22.

Sources said that 5 million ready-made vaccines will arrive from China this month, and 3 million doses of CanSino vaccine raw materials will arrive in Pakistan from June 21 to 22.

At the same time, on June 20, a batch of 2.5 million doses of Kexing vaccine will arrive from China.
