Members of the UK's Pakistani community protested outside the residences of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and ex-wife of Imran Khan Jemima Goldsmith on Sunday.

A large number of people also gathered in London's Hyde Park to show support for former premier Imran, who was ousted on April 9 in a parliamentary no-confidence vote.

Meanwhile, protests also took place outside the residence of Jemima Goldsmith despite her remarks that she and her children had nothing to do with politics in Pakistan.

On Friday, Jemima said that she was having a terrifying déjà vu as supporters of her former husband’s political rivals started targeting her children with anti-Semitic slurs.

On Friday, she recounted the anti-Semitic attacks she had faced during her stay in Pakistan as she shared the poster of a protest being planned outside her London residence on April 17.

“Protest outside my house, targeting my children, anti-Semitic abuse on social media… It’s almost like I’m back in the 90s Lahore,” Jemima tweeted with #PuranaPakistan, in her first social media reaction after the toppling of Imran’s government.

This is bad behaviour and nothing justifies this. There is no comparison with protests outside NS home. He is a politician – @Jemima_Khan and her children are not involved in politics. They are being put at risk. All this even though it is clear she loves Pakistan & Pakistanis https://t.co/juRcsGUooF

The protest was allegedly planned by supporters of Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister who has been living in London since 2020 when he flew out of a Pakistani jail for treatment of some undiagnosed ailment. He was serving a jail term on charges of financial corruption.

Later in the day, Jemina Goldsmith and senior journalist Hamid Mir engaged in a rare public spat on Twitter.

Imran was married to Jemima from 1995 to 2004 and together they have two children, Qasim and Sulaiman. Jemima moved to London after her divorce from the ex-premier where she has been living with her sons ever since.

Jemima, daughter of billionaire James Goldsmith, converted to Islam for her marriage to Imran Khan but “she was constantly attacked as an insincere Muslim, part because of her Jewish grandfather,” according to a 2004 account in The Guardian.
