Muzaffarabad: The political parties have agreed to deploy Pakistani troops at the polling stations for the election of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on July 25, news Report on Wednesday.
The publication stated that the decision was made in the context of all political party leaders attending the high-level meeting of the Election Committee, chaired by AJK Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Abdul Rashid Sulehria.
Participants of the meeting suggested to the AJK Election Committee to deploy troops at the polling station to maintain law and order on the polling day.
In its speech, the Central Election Commission urged the leaders of all political parties to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission and to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.
Fahat Alimir, a member of the Election Committee, said that the purpose of the consultation meeting with the heads of the political parties was to solicit their opinions on the deployment of the army.
He added that the Election Commission has so far taken severe action against violations of the code of conduct.
Participants also passed a resolution on the deployment of troops at polling stations.
AJK grants administrative power to the army
At the same time, at the request of the Election Commission, the AJK government has granted the military officers summoned on July 25 the local authority to assist the electoral agency and the administration to maintain law and order on polling day.
Earlier, there were reports that after the AJK Election Committee made a request for conscription, the army would “stand by” to assist the legislative assembly election on July 25.
The Ministry of the Interior issued a notice on July 8 stating, “I am pleased to authorize the deployment of 1,600 Pakistani Ranger (Punjab) troops (standby) and 4,000 border police forces at highly sensitive polling stations to carry out Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The general election of the Legislative Assembly will be held on July 25, 2021″.
