PM Imran Khan urges world leaders to support Afghans financially

Islamabad: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan discussed with the leaders of Germany, Denmark and the United Kingdom on the changing situation after the Taliban took over Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister told them that while Pakistan is in contact with all Afghan leaders, the international community must also remain involved, especially in supporting the Afghan people economically.

He expressed these views during phone calls with German Chancellor Merkel, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Danish Prime Minister Mett Fredriksen, who had called him to exchange views on the crisis in Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan emphasized that security and the protection of the rights of all Afghans are of utmost importance.

He said that an inclusive political solution to the Afghan issue is the best way out.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is facilitating the evacuation of diplomats and staff of international organizations from Afghanistan.

During the telephone conversation, Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasized that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is of vital importance to Pakistan.

When talking with Angela Merkel, the Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction with Bard’s regular high-level exchanges.

He added that Pakistan looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Germany in all areas of mutual interest.

British Red List

In a bilateral context, Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasized Pakistan’s extensive measures to contain COVID-19, pointed out that relevant data has been shared with the British side, and called for Pakistan to be removed from the red list.

The two prime ministers agreed to keep in touch with the changing situation in Afghanistan.
