PM Imran Khan emphasizes the need for electronic voting to ensure transparent elections

Islamabad Prime Minister Imran Khan said that according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday, electronic voting is the only way to ensure election transparency and prevent election manipulation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan issued a statement at a meeting in Islamabad and heard a briefing on the use of electronic voting machines in the election process.

Minister of Science and Technology Shibli Faraz, Speaker of the Senate, Dr. Shehzad Wasim, Minister of Railway Azam Khan Swati, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib, and Prime Minister’s Advisor Babar Awan attended the briefing.

The Prime Minister gave a detailed account of the progress made so far in the use of electronic voting machines and legislation in this area.

PM Imran Khan reiterated his commitment to ensure the transparency of the use of electronic voting machines in the election process and to meet all constitutional requirements.

The Prime Minister said that the current government is committed to ensuring the transparency of the country’s electoral process.

“Overseas Pakistanis are national assets and they must participate in the election process […] The electoral reform, electronic voting and voting procedures for overseas Pakistanis should be completed as soon as possible,” he instructed relevant officials.

On June 10, the House of Representatives passed the “Elections (Second Amendment) Bill”, which involves the use of technology and modern equipment to achieve fair, free, and transparent elections.

The bill also aims to grant overseas Pakistanis the right to vote, which may only be achieved by granting ECP exclusive powers with technical assistance from NADRA and other institutions.

Articles 94 and 103 of the 2017 Election Law seek to be amended to achieve the above goals.
